Nahgeib Carl Miller is a Professor of Earth Sciences and Construction Materials in the School of Environmental and Civil Engineering Technology (SECET), Seneca College with over 15 years teaching experience. His teaching philosophy is, “Learning is a mystery to be solved and everyone has their own mystery. It is fun to unpack our learning mysteries and I love to find real world corollaries and analogies to aid with this endeavor. I employ applied experiences to augment theoretical concepts in order to reveal true understanding, leading to their practical application. The greater the mystery, the greater the joy in solving it!”

Formerly, he was engaged in seismic research at the Earthquake Unit in Jamaica; gold exploration, mine inspection, and construction aggregate provenance research with the Mines and Geology Division. He brings his wealth of knowledge and experience to this textbook with the hope that it inspires readers to become more curious about how the planet works and their place in it.
